Manual Handling is Defined as; Any transporting or supporting of a load by one or more employees and includes lifting, putting down, pushing,pulling carrying or moving a load, which, by reason of its characteristics or unfavourable ergonomics conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injury, to employees. What Legislation applies to Manual Handling / Safety Training? The 205 Act and 2007 GAR, places a duty on Employers to have their staff trained by a competent Instructor who is trained to fetac level 6 or above. Things for Employers and Staff to be aware of when Training. It must be provided by a competent and Qualified fetac Instructor or above, this is a person who can train, assess and certify that the student is competent to perform the moves safely. Many companies are providing video training, facilitated by a non qualified facilitator, this is manual handling awareness training and not certified manual handling Training.
